Rochdale the area.
Rochdale Borough covers 62 square miles and over two thirds of the borough is covered by countryside and green areas. It contains four townships based on Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood and the Pennines. It was originally made prosperous by wool and later cotton spinning, and made famous for the Co-operative Movement started in 1844 by a group of Rochdale working men.
The centre of the town is only 10 minutes from the M62. It links Rochdale to Greater Manchester and other cites in the region and provides easy access to Yorkshire and the Pennines. Its main tourist attractions are Hollingworth Lake, Touchstones Art Gallery and the borough’s Town Hall.
