Stockport
Stockport the area
Stockport is a partly urban and partly rural location. It is a thriving, prosperous and well connected place 10 minutes by train from the centre of Manchester, positioned on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the Cheshire plain. It benefits from a number of transport hubs (including motorway junctions, railway stations and the nearby Manchester Airport. However Road congestion is an issue, due in part to poor public transport usage and the major commuting traffic both into, through, and out of, the borough.
Stockport has 8 district centres and many more neighbourhood and local centres each with its own distinct identity. It has high levels of owner occupied housing. With house prices in Stockport above the North West average there is a high and increasing demand for social rented accommodation, of which there is relatively low stock.
