Embracing Difference 2012

Discovering what Greater Manchester's diverse communities want from their police service.

We have a responsibility to consult people within Greater Manchester to ensure all our policies, strategies, practices and procedures are appropriate and, more importantly, informed by the needs, views and expectations of Greater Manchester's diverse communities.

Doing this helps us better maintain an effective and efficient police service that meets everyone's needs.

We're committed to building on the success of consultation exercises from 2011 to 2012 and are determined to make sure that Greater Manchester Police's strategic priorities are informed by the views of communities within Greater Manchester. Each year, these strategic priorities are published in the policing plan.

This year our engagement programme will include ‘seldom heard' communities to make sure we include communities that have not been consulted in previous years - for example the views of Chinese communities and new and emerging communities, such as Eastern European communities.

Rather than focussing our efforts to engage and consult using a geographic approach, for 2012 we will be targeting communities by linking in with the Equality Act 2010. Each month we will target the views of the organisations, communities and individuals representing the ‘protected characteristics'. This will be alongside ALL the other activities we are planning such as consultation with businesses, visiting local superstores, running youth studies in schools, attending big community events and much much more!

We're calling this engagement programme, Embracing Difference 2012 and you can keep up to date with activities on the Get My Point Across events page. You can also read more information about GMPA's commitment to equality and diversity.

If you would like more information or want to get involved, email us on info@gmpa.gov.uk or ask for a member of the engagement team on 0161 793 3409.
