Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA) has been granted the majority of the money it requested from the Home Office to cover the cost of the August disorder.
The Police Authority will be reimbursed up to £8.654,062 of the £9,161,053 originally applied for.
This includes funds to cover all claims made under the Riot Damages Act, which is currently estimated at £5,781,118. The Special Grant payment also covers 85 per cent of the operational costs of policing the disorder, which totalled £3,379,935.
This means the cost to the Police Authority will be just over £500,000.
Cllr Paul Murphy, Chairman of the GMPA, said: "We are delighted that the Home Office has decided to award us this Special Grant money, particularly due to the financial challenges facing the Police Authority and our concern that the costs of the disorder would place an additional burden on the local policing budget.
"GMPA has always been focussed on assessing each claim made under the Riot Damages Act swiftly and robustly so as to strike the right balance between due diligence and minimising the impact on local businesses, and this will continue."
