Police Authority Annual Report

The Annual Report for 2006-07 has been broken down as follows. Please use the links below to view and download the documents.

As always, we have seen some challenges over the past year, but we are also pleased to report a number of achievements for 2006-07.

We continue to champion neighbourhood policing, which has been very well received by members of the public who feel safer with PCSOs on the streets. We now have over 800 PCSOs operating across Greater Manchester who offer a very visible police presence on our streets. This has been extremely effective in contributing to reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour, car crime and burglaries. However, we mustn’t become complacent. Whilst the fear of crime for burglary and vehicle crime has decreased overall, there have been increases in the fear of violent crimes, perceptions of anti-social behaviour and perceptions of local drug use / drug dealing. The Authority will continue to closely monitor these areas.

Councillor Paul Murphy

GMPA Chairman

We can only continue to improve are policing service by listening to the communities we serve. We have already increased dialogue with local people through our independent advisory panels. Also a youth conference was held last November, which provided an excellent forum to hear the views and concerns of the young people. It’s now time to reach each and every person who lives, works and visits Greater Manchester through new and enhanced links with partners and community groups so we can address all issues concerning age, gender, race and disability.

This has certainly been an interesting year and I would like to thank all the members and staff at the Authority for their hard work and commitment. Together with the Chief Constable and his team we have helped ensure the people of Greater Manchester benefit from an efficient and effective police force.
